When I was in 1st grade, I became good friends with a girl named Emily. She was in my class and we were seatmates. We continued to be friends the next year in 2nd grade. Then one day she told me that they were moving to another city, somewhere close to Luneta park. She left school and I remember feeling so sad the next couple of weeks. Everytime we would pass by the general area where she said they would move to, I always thought of her. Now that I think of it, she was my very first best friend. Of course her absence was filled little by little with my other friends and as time passed by, I found another best friend. But that didn't mean that I had completely forgotten about her. It had been 36 years but I still remember her face, her hair and the way she talks. I always wonder what had become of her. Yes, I did google her name but didn't get much info. Wouldn't it be great if I did find her? How about you, do you have a friend that you want to meet again?

Did You Go Dark Last Night?
If you have no idea what I meant, then the answer would be 'no'. 8:30-9:30PM last night was Earth Hour. People who participated switched off their lights for one hour. You can read more about it from the website http://www.earthhour.org/ . We switched off the lights and turned off TVs and computers. "What now?" That's what my daughter asked when Earth Hour started. LOL So what did we do? We sat in the living room which was lit up with candles and the kids' flashlights. Dh and I made up silly and scary stories. My 4-year old son also tried his hand in story telling
although his main character were the gingerbread boy and the gingerbread girl because his favorite book was the Gingerbread Boy. Then came the time when my son had to use the bathroom. He ran and turned on the light and we all screamed "No!!!" then dh ran and turned it off. LOL It was funny, dh went in with him with the flashlight in hand. It was a fun hour for all of us for sure. How was yours?

Beautiful
I received the watercolor painting I won from John Wright's blog earlier this week. I was so happy when I saw it in person. Beautiful is an understatement. The photos I posted a month ago and this photo does not do it justice. I love the colors that he used; different hues of yellows and blues. This will be hung on the wall near the fireplace. Now I'm on the hunt for the perfect frame for this painting. I'm thinking of a simple silver frame or should I choose an ornate frame for this? John has a contest every month, visit his blog for more info.
Now on to more mundane stuff. I wasn't able to do much blogging these past couple of days. I was working on the invites for my parent's wedding anniversary party in the Philippines this summer. I thought I was finished but I was wrong. I decided to change one part of the invitation so that meant more work for me. I also had to deal with my 401K since my old company was bought by another company. I had to read all the info and decide if I want to change investment companies. It's not fun at all although having the internet makes it much easier, just like looking online for term life insurance quotes. I also added my son as a beneficiary which I kept meaning to do for a long time. This also reminded me to update our wills and medical directives. Having these are very important especially if you have young kids, so you should consider having it done.

PhotoHunt #12 - Yellow
Ooops, this clog is way too big! So he searched again and found another pair of yellow clogs.
Uh-oh, this doesn't fit either. :o( So he went to search for the perfect pair of clogs somewhere else. He rode the bus and went to the coast and reached a small fishing village called Volendam. Guess what?
He found the perfect pair of yellow clogs and he also got to wear a Dutch boy costume. He flashed a big smile and said "Mommy, these clogs fit just right!" THE END :O) And that's my PhotoHunt entry for this week. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did making it, now I'm off to look for some iphone accessories my brother asked for. We're visiting him this summer in the Philippines. You can see more PHOTOHUNT entries here.

Cebu, Here We Come!
This summer, we are going to go to the Philippines. My parents are going to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte. It is my mom's home town and my birth place too. The kids and I are going to spend a month in the country while dh will fly in after a couple of weeks. I'll be spending most of my time in Pasig City while waiting for dh to arrive. Dh and I were considering going to El Nido, Palawan but scrapped that idea when we learned of how small the passenger plane is going to be. We decided to see Palawan on our next trip, when the kids are much older. Going north is not a good idea considering it's monsoon season. The northern part of the Philippines is known to get hit by a lot of typhoons during that time. We've already been to Panglao island in Bohol (loved it!), so we chose Cebu City as our destination.
I have been to Cebu only once. I barely remember my visit when I was a young girl. It'll be a nice chance to see the city with my family. I am also excited to visit since Anthony Bourdain of No Reservations hailed Cebu lechon as the best pig ever(which I blogged about HERE). . I heard that the place in front of SM mall makes the best lechon (is this true?), so you can bet I'm going to look for it. I was searching online for luxury hotel rooms and have chosen Shangrila hotel in Mactan. They have a lot of activities for kids and the property and the beach looks pristine. We are looking forward to our vacation. It'll be nice to see relatives and friends, both old and new. :o)
A Tragedy

When I heard of the news that actress Natasha Richardson was in critical condition, I prayed for her and her family. I was sad to hear that she died yesterday. I don't know why I am affected by her death. I think it's because she's also a mom and her death was so sudden. She was taking skiing lessons with her son when she fell. What seemed to be a minor tumble turned into a deadly situation. This tragedy reminds us that life is precious. It can end in any moment. We never know when our time is up. Being a mom, it made me think of my kids who are still young. I cannot even imagine not being there for them. Her death reminded me to live in the moment. Life is too short to worry about trivial stuff.

Lainy's Blogoversary Celebration
My friend Lainy of Lainy's Musings is celebrating her 1st blogoversary by holding a contest. It's not your usual run-of-the-mill contest, she is holding a writing competition. What a great idea! What better way to acknowledge fellow bloggers than having this kind of competition where their talent in writing will be showcased. The theme for the writing competition is “Blog to the world; Blog for you and me”. There are many prizes: cash, 50,000 EC credits, blog layout, domain registrations, e-books, AD spaces and more. If you are interested, you can see the specifics of her contest by clicking on the banner. Good luck!

Poke Me on Facebook
My sister and cousins have been badgering me for a long time to join Facebook. I resisted for a while since I'm already signed up with a handful of social networking sites. I don't even have the time to check most of it with the exception of Friendster since my friends from the Philippines are active on it. So finally at the start of this year, I signed up with FB. I was surprised to learn that it's not just college students in there. I found this site more user friendly than Friendster and there are fun things to do. I got poked a lot of times (reminds me of the Pillsbury Dough Boy LOL), given a lot of gifts (I prefer cash thank you. LOL joke!) people wrote a lot of stuff on my wall (can I say wanna be graffiti artists? LOL) and I became a fan of something (Haagen Dazs - I may need to find the best diet pill after eating one LOL). I have my profile set on private so only my friends can view it. So if you want to connect, just let me know so I can poke you! :o)
-----Read Full Post-----Nothing to Blog About...
I've been thinking of what to write now for a couple of hours. I know I had a lot of ideas the day before and now nothing seems to materialize. Everything just draws a blank for some reason. It's like something is wrong with my memory card, maybe it's corrupted? ha ha. Don't you just hate it when that happens? When you're not in front of the computer, you'll get an idea and you think this is a good topic to blog about. The moment you sit and are ready to get to work, nothing comes up. Well it's been a long week and I am slowly catching up on that lost hour. :o)
-----Read Full Post-----When the Economy is Down, Crime Goes Up
I was talking with a friend the other day and she mentioned that they installed a security alarm. With the economy tanking, she said that they are worried that burglaries will go up. Now I know that the area where she lives is very safe, pretty much like mine. The crime rates are way below average but we all know that thieves have cars so they can pretty much go anywhere. It is also in the news, crime rates are up.
Did you hear about the church deacon that robbed a bank? His real estate business is about to close and he didn't have the money to pay his family's mortgage. I've also been directly affected by crime lately. I've been here in the US for almost 20 years and this is the first time that I've been pick-pocketed. I have a wad of dollar bills in one of the inside pockets of my bag and it was nowhere to be found when I got home. Thinking back, I remembered there was a man standing too close to me while I was waiting for my turn at the customer service desk at the grocery. I had my pocketbook open that time because I took out the receipt. I was so upset that it happened. It is just a small amount but still, it is just wrong. I'm just glad that I didn't get hurt in the process, he could've had a box cutter with him and I could've been traumatized. Just looking for the silver lining here. LOL
So what do you think? Is my friend over-acting by having an alarm system installed or are you planning to do the same thing?

Wordless Wednesday - Would You Like Some Whine?

Just looking at this menu makes me want to take some diet pills. All the food sounds delicious. I don't think I'd go to the WHINE bar though. :o) I saw this menu board in one of the restaurants near Campo di Fiore in Rome, Italy. I had to stop dh so I can take this photo. There are a lot of restaurants in Rome with outdoor seating and they have menu boards displayed outside. This is mostly written in English for the tourists.
This and That...
Is it Friday yet? It's hard to lose an hour, well for me at least. I need to play catch up somehow. I guess I was just tired from all that I did the other day. I hope I took out everything that needs to be taken out and didn't miss anything.
Anyway, I also am having problems with my other blog. It showed no data the other day so I had to email support about it. They fixed it fast because it was working early yesterday evening but it still shows zilch in my dashboard. It's a bummer since some ops aren't available to me because of that. I'll give it a day or so and see if it's going to change.
Lastly, another scumbag copied my post. Uggh! It's from the same part of the world DELHI, INDIA. I.P. 59.92.38.40 Some people just don't care. They don't have scruples. What a lazy bum! I reported this low life and I hope his account gets deleted from this company. If you see someone visiting your blog from Google Blog Search and they used a URL for the search term, it's likely that they will copy your post. Beware!
That's enough rant for today, I still need to look for photos of softball trophies. :o)

St. Patrick's Day Swag
Look what the mailman brought me. It's a box full of St. Patrick's day goodies from this company. What a nice surprise! It consists of a green t-shirt ('Show Me Your Shamrocks' printed on the front and the company name on the back), a couple of 'Kiss Me I'm Irish' necklaces, a tiny green beer mug with a green bead necklace, green clover pin, green fortune cookie (I was hoping the message inside reads "Congratulations, we will revert to the old price guidelines". LOL wishful thinking), green candies and cans of energy drink. This is a nice gesture for posties. Thank you!
Anyone else received these?

Krispy Kreme bacon cheese burgers. Uggh! All these photos are from a new website
that has user submitted photos of food that will make you fat if you don't get a heart attack first. I like Krispy Kreme glazed donuts but this is just wrong!
This is a mega pizza from Pizza hunt in Japan. Yes, the crust are made with are pigs in a blanket
This one is a heart-attack breakfast burrito. This is big enough to feed a family of six!
This last one is plain disgusting. Whoever made this called it 'meat ship'. It consists of hotdogs, bacon, sausages and mince meat. Uggh. If you're trying to lose weight, you should visit this site. After looking at the photos, you'll lose your appetite. LOL

Second Chance for AI Contestants
Last night in American Idol, the judges gave some contestants who were voted off a second chance. One of those who were brought back is Anoop Desai. :o) I'm glad he is given a second chance and I hope that he makes it through this time. I didn't vote last time but I'll make sure to vote for him next week. He was overwhelmed when he heard Simon Cowell say his name. His reaction is a complete opposite of Tatiana. Yes, she's baaack! Uhm, why? I think it's because she makes for good TV. She's what we call OA in the Philippines. OA for over-acting. Don't you think so too? All that screaming and hyperventilating and what else. I wonder how long she's going to stay. Maybe she'll be this year's Sanjaya, people will vote for her just because.
-----Read Full Post-----Bag Tag
I grabbed this bag tag from Shydub, :o)
Here are the rules:
1. Post a picture of whatever bag you are carrying as of late. No, you can't go into your closet and pull out your favorite purse! We want to know what you carried today or the last time you left the house.
2. List how much it cost. And this is not to judge. This is for entertainment purposes only. So spill it. And if there is a story to go along with how you obtained it, we’d love to hear it.
3. Tag some chicks. And link back to this post so people know why the heck you’re showing everyone your bag.
Ok, here's my pocketbook, one of two that I swap every week. I bought this 3 years ago for $225. I only buy a pocketbook once every couple of years so I prefer to get something that is well made and will last me a long time. I don't think I carry a lot in it as you can see from the photo. Hmm, I have mostly health and beauty stuff. Yes, that's dental floss, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, lipstick and gloss, mineral powder with carrying case, cough drops and gum. I also carry two lip balms, one each for my kids. I'm missing some pocket tissues and my cell phone (it's being charged). I also have an extra car key since I don't want to get locked out of the car, a monthly planner (free from the hair salon) and a nice pen (free from my optometrist). Is this a lot of stuff to carry or just average? Now you know why I'm looking for a bigger pocketbook. I can barely fit in the water bottle in here. LOL :o) Feel free to grab it if you want to play along.

Ladies, Help Me Choose
Please help me choose among these three pocketbooks (or purses in other parts of the country :o) ). It's time for me to get a new one and I cannot decide which one. The first two are not available in black and I'm considering these color which is dark brown. The last one meanwhile is available in black. Which one do you like, A, B or C?

3-3-9

For all math geeks out there, HAPPY SQUARE ROOT DAY! :o) Translation for the mathematically challenged: Tuesday is 03/03/09, simply put, the square root of 9 is 3 (3 x 3 = 9).
This only happens nine times every 100 years. If you're on Facebook, you can even become a fan of the square root or a fan of the square root day. I am on Facebook but I did not become a fan of the square root. I prefer to keep my square root obsession private. ha ha

The Bachelor...Oh No, Not Again!
I knew it! While watching the finale of The Bachelor, where Jason just dumped Molly, I had the feeling that he made a huge mistake. There is something about Melissa that just rubs me the wrong way. Well, I'm watching the After the Final Rose show right now and classy, she is not. I have to give props to Jason, he could've just pretended that everything is perfect just like what the previous bachelors did but he didn't. He said that after spending the last six weeks with Melissa, he realized that he made the wrong decision. He thought that he loved her more than Molly but this was not the case. Well, he probably saw Melissa's real personality. (Note to Melissa: He's just not into you, sorry.) Jason said that he just couldn't stop thinking about Molly. (Uh, hello, can I say L-O-V-E?) *sigh* Truth be told, I only watch the beginning and the last couple of episodes of this show. I got tired of all the drama between the girls, etc. Anyway, I really hope that Jason finds the perfect woman for him (*cough*, Molly) and break this Bachelor jinx. The show is still going on so I have no idea if Molly will take him back. Being the hopeless romantic, I hope they have a happy ending.
** Well, I'm happy to add that she took him back. You can tell from the way Jason acted that he is really in love with this woman. *sigh again*. Time will tell.
I Bid on EBay and Now I'm Rattled
Is it just me or do you also feel nervous when you bid on EBay? Uggh! Last night, I placed a bid on a set of 8 place settings plus other extra pieces of china for a total of 47 pieces. It's the same pattern of china that I currently have. Right now, I only have 8 place settings and I wanted to add 4 more for a complete set. I am crossing my fingers and hope that I win the bidding. The highest bid is currently at $86. That is a great price for this lot considering one place setting costs more or less $75. When dh and I chose a china pattern for our gift registry, we didn't care for the brand or price. We looked at the design and chose the one that we loved the most. We settled on a beautiful china with scalloped edge and gold band and a delicately applied white lace design on ivory pattern. My china is almost complete except for 4 more place settings and a coffee server. Now I have to wait for two days. I hate this waiting part, it's too long. Anyway, all I can do right now is wait, pace around the house LOL and hope for the best.

Why Can't She Break It Off?
I was flabbergasted when I heard that Rihanna has reconciled with her abusive/batterer boyfriend Chris Brown. What is she thinking? Well, obviously, she's not thinking! Why did she go back to this guy who just weeks before left her battered and bruised. Did you see THE photo? My goodness. What's even unbelievable is the statement from Rihanna's father. He said that he supports her in whatever decision she makes. Uh, hello! Aren't parents supposed to guide and give advice to their sons and daughters especially at times where they seem to have lost their minds? This is just mind boggling for me. I was disappointed with her decision because I thought that she's going to set an example to her fans that abuse is NOT OKAY.
